"Almost Gone" is a song that dates back to 2008. Different title, different lyrics, but the music itself went largely unchanged. I knew it needed to be on this album, and I knew it needed to be track 2.

The whole instrumental outro of the song arrived fully formed. The breakdown, the bass lick foreshadowing the horn melody, the way it shifts and builds to the finish line.

Here's the original home demo I made before we got in the studio. Come for the terrible sound quality, stay for my *finger-tapped* drum solo!

I still listen to this song a lot. It's one thing to capture a sound; it's another to capture a feeling. This song--really, all of Orchid South--is meant to evoke a feeling as much as anything. It was a long journey from 2008, but I think we got there.
